Pakistani girl poisons 13 family members to death over dispute on marriage choice

PTC News Desk: A tragic incident unfolded in Pakistan's Sindh province, where a young woman was arrested after 13 members of her family died from poisoning. The deaths occurred in Haibat Khan Brohi village near Khairpur on August 19, following the consumption of food laced with poison.
The girl, angered by her family's refusal to allow her to marry the boy of her choice, allegedly conspired with her boyfriend to carry out the fatal act, according to local police.
Senior police officer Inayat Shah, speaking from Khairpur, confirmed that all 13 family members, including the girl's parents, became violently ill after consuming the poisoned food. They were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, none survived. "When the post-mortem was conducted, it became clear that they had died due to poisoning," Shah said.

A thorough police investigation revealed that the daughter and her boyfriend had mixed poison into the wheat flour used to make rotis, a staple food in the household. Authorities arrested the girl on Sunday, following her confession.
“She admitted to mixing the poison in the wheat with her boyfriend’s help, out of anger and frustration at her family's refusal to allow the marriage,” Shah explained. The shocking incident has left the community in disbelief and underscores the devastating consequences of such actions driven by personal and familial conflicts.
