Viral: Sweden has become the first country in the world to officially declare sex as a sport, suggested multiple media reports. According to these recent reports, the Swedish Sex Federation is set to host the first European Sex Championship in Gothenburg on June 8.

Reportedly, the six-week-long competition will take place under the Swedish Sex Federation's guidance and participants will engage in sexual activities under 16 disciplines. This would include seduction, oral sex, penetration, endurance, body massages, foreplay, exploring erotic zones and more.

Some media reports also highlighted the significance of participants' knowledge of ‘Kamasutra’ - the Sanskrit scripture on sex and eroticism. The knowledge of 'Kamasutra' will allegedly influence the decision-making process and the participant will get points on the basis of their knowledge.

Location: Gothenburg in Sweden

Duration: 6 hours/day

Representatives: 20 participants

Disciplines: 16

But, is it even true?

As the bizarre news went viral, people flooded the social media platforms with a range of reactions. While some supported the initiative saying it would be great to eliminate societal taboos surrounding sex, others were sceptical.

With the story gaining momentum, fact-checkers stepped in, revealing while there was a small kernel of truth to the claim, the news of a 'sex Championship'  has turned out to be fake.

Proposal for a sex competition was rejected

Reportedly, the Swedish Federation of Sex led by Dragan Bratych had applied to become a member of the National Sports Confederation. However, the proposal was rejected by National Sports Confederation in Sweden in April.

According to Swedish media, Bratych has several strip clubs in southern Sweden and claims that they have an organisation number and that sex is a sport like any other.

Moreover, the sports body has officially confirmed that it does not recognize sex as a sport. But, it remains uncertain whether the competition will take place or not.
