PTC News Desk: The Indian government has once again taken a sharp dig on Canada. The government issued a strong worded statement to Canada over diplomatic communication suggesting Indian High Commissioner and other diplomats as ‘persons of interest’ while calling it "preposterous imputations" and said it was a political agenda of the Justin Trudeau government to woo its vote bank.

The Ministry of External Affairs in a sharp rebuttal said that, "Since Prime Minister Trudeau made certain allegations in September 2023, the Canadian Government has not shared a shred of evidence with the Government of India, despite many requests from our side. This latest step follows interactions that have again witnessed assertions without any facts. This leaves little doubt that on the pretext of an investigation, there is a deliberate strategy of smearing India for political gains."

It further added, "Trudeau Government has consciously provided space to violent extremists and terrorists to harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada. This has included death threats to them and to Indian leaders.

The government also cited long evidence of Prime Minister Trudeau’s hostility to India and said that his 2018 India visit was aimed at currying favour with a vote bank which rebounded to his discomfort.

The diplomatic ties between India and Canada took a sour turn when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the parliament held India responsible for the murder of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. However India has constantly called out Canada for the blatant allegations without presenting coroborating evidence.
