Kamala Harris secures sufficient democratic delegates for US Presidential nomination
At least 2,579 delegates have endorsed Kamala Harris thus far, surpassing the 1,976 delegates required for victory on the first round.
PTC News Desk: Enough Democratic delegates have endorsed US Vice President Kamala Harris to secure her party's presidential candidacy.
A number of state delegations, including those from Texas and California, the home state of the vice president, convened late on Monday to reaffirm their backing for Harris. In excess of the 1,976 delegates required to win on the first ballot, Harris has so far secured the endorsement of at least 2,579 delegates, according to an AP count.
75 per cent to 80 per cent of the state's delegation was on the phone, according to California state Democratic Chairman Rusty Hicks, and they were all in favor of Harris.
Hicks told AP, "I haven't heard anyone calling for or mentioning any other candidate." "The vote that was cast tonight was historic." The event occurred one day after US President Joe Biden abruptly decided not to run for reelection and instead supported Kamala Harris to be the Democratic nominee for president.
Following his debate performance against 78-year-old Donald Trump, which revealed age-related weaknesses, party elders, elected officials, contributors, and voters called for Biden, 80, to step down in favor of a younger candidate, Biden found himself under intense pressure. Three weeks into his resistance, Biden eventually caved in to pressure as surveys indicated there was no way he could win.

As of right now, no other Democrat has declared their intention to run for the party's candidacy.
Following Biden's endorsement, Harris declared her goal to secure and ultimately win the presidential nomination.
"I am grateful for the President's support, and I want to merit and be selected for this nomination. I have been traveling the nation for the past year, speaking with citizens about the obvious option in this historic election. And I'll keep doing that in the next days and weeks. In order to beat Donald Trump, I will use every effort to bring the Democratic Party and the country together," stated Harris.
There were 107 days left before the elections, she said. Together, we'll battle. And we'll succeed together.
