PTC News Desk: In a significant decision during final days, US President Joe Biden has pardoned his son Hunter Biden over gun and tax fraud charges. Hunter Biden was convicted of gun charges and pleaded guilty to federal tax invasion.

In a statement released by the White House, Biden said he had granted clemency to Hunter, who was due to be sentenced later this month on two separate criminal cases. The official clemency granted by President cannot be rescind by president-elect Donald Trump.

The decision comes as a reversal of public assurance as Biden had earlier announced that he would not use his presidential powers to pardon his son. The pardon restricts Hunter Biden from being sentenced or incarcerated and all the hearing in connection with the case are likely to be cancelled.

"Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter,” the president said. The White House has confirmed that the pardon is unconditional.

Earlier in Nvember White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated that no presidential pardon for Hunter Biden is expected and on the contrary he will be going through the same legal process as any other citizen.
