Indian visa centres in Bangladesh shut indefinitely amid 'unstable situation'
Sheikh Hasina was compelled to step down as prime minister and leave Bangladesh due to widespread protests against the Awami League administration. She then fled to India.
PTC News Desk: Following Sheikh Hasina's resignation as prime minister and her departure from the country due to unrest in the neighbouring country, all Indian visa application centers in Bangladesh would be closed till further notice. The phrase "All IVACs will remain closed till further notice, due to unstable situation" is currently shown on the online application gateway for Indian visas. The next application date will be sent by SMS, and it is asked that you pick up your passport on the following business day."
This occurs one day after Bangladesh's unstable circumstances forced New Delhi to evacuate non-essential employees and their families from its High Commission and consulates. However, according to government sources, Indian diplomats are still stationed there and the missions are operating.
India maintains consulates in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Khulna, and Sylhet in addition to a high commission in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.
The 76-year-old head of the Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, was forced to quit as prime minister and escape to India as a result of widespread protests against her government in Bangladesh.The formation of an interim government supported by the Army is underway. The caretaker administration will be led by Muhammad Yunus, the creator of Grameen Bank and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that there are approximately 19,000 Indian nationals living in Bangladesh, of which 9,000 are students, while speaking to the Parliament about the neighborhood situation. He claimed that after the protests started, a large number of the students went back to India. He stated that the Indian community and the administration are in close communication.
