Indian-origin grandfather dies following assault in UK; five minors arrested
The 80-year-old man of Indian descent, Bhim Kohli, passed away in Franklin Park, eastern England, following an attack by five juveniles when he was out on a stroll with his dog. The 12- and 14-year-old kids were taken into custody on suspicion of killing. Kohli passed just a day after the attack from a catastrophic neck injury.
PTC News Desk: An 80-year-old Indian-origin man, Bhim Kohli, has tragically passed away after being assaulted while walking his dog in eastern England. The attack, which occurred in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, has led to a murder investigation, with five minors being arrested in connection with the incident.
The assault took place around 6:30 pm on September 1, near the entrance of the park. Kohli, a resident of Leicester, was quickly rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries the following day. A post-mortem examination confirmed that Kohli died from a neck injury, though further tests are still pending.
Among those arrested are a 14-year-old boy and girl, along with a 12-year-old boy and two 12-year-old girls. The 14-year-old boy remains in police custody, while the other four minors have been released without further action.

Leicestershire Police have intensified their investigation into the case. Detective Inspector Emma Matts, the Senior Investigating Officer, stated, “Sadly, following the death of the victim last night, this has now become a murder investigation. Officers are continuing to work at speed to establish the details of the attack, and we have made a number of arrests as we continue to understand what has happened.”
Kohli’s daughter expressed her sorrow to LeicestershireLive, revealing that her father was only moments away from the safety of his home when the attack occurred. A neighbor, Deep Kaila, added, "He [Kohli] had a factory in Leicester making jumpers and cardigans but retired many years ago. He has two boys and a daughter, all grown up, and two grandsons. It's tragic what happened."
Police are appealing to any witnesses who were in the area between 6:00 pm and 6:45 pm on the day of the incident to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
