Dubai flooded after heavy rainfall, thunderstorm hit UAE; safety alert issued
PTC News Desk: After heavy rain and thunderstorms hit parts of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai roads became waterlogged and flooded. Residents were advised to avoid beaches and stay indoors following the downpour, as traffic and flight operations were also disrupted.
People in Dubai took to social media to share photos of the heavy rain. A man was seen rowing a small boat on a flooded road in one of the videos shared on X (formerly Twitter), while other videos showed waterlogged and flooded roads.
Authorities advised people to avoid beaches and areas prone to flash floods, and to drive cautiously. The weather service in the UAE issued yellow and orange alerts.
As more rain is expected in the UAE, the municipality of Dubai activated a preparedness plan to drain rainwater.
Following the rains, the government urged the private sector to allow for flexible working hours, and more rain is expected in the coming days.
