PTC News Desk: A Chinese national was killed in Afghanistan's northern Takhar province on January 22. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the Afghan police, investigation into the matter has been launched, however they could not ascertain that who was behind the attack. The Islamic State said it had targeted a vehicle carrying the Chinese citizen, which led to his death and damage to his vehicle.

Former Ambassador Anil Trigunayat who is a distinguished fellow at Vivekananda International Foundation reacted strongly to the attack and overall situation in Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. According to AMB. Trigunayat, Afghanistan hold the presence of militant groups in large numbers and Taliban is not necessarily capacitated to manage all those groups until some international assistance is provided.

"The only thing Taliban leadership actually promised that from their territory they will not allow the militancy or extremism to go out but that is also they are not able to do so because terror groups work like a syndicate and they support one another in different parts of the world," AMB. Trigunayat said.

He further said that the big states and powers are legitimising terrorism and terror groups in different parts of the world are assured that they can follow their tactics.

"Certain groups which used to be treated as designated terrorist groups in different parts, they are being legitimised so once they know that they can be following their tactics they can even achieve the Islamic State or whatever their views or objectives can then obviously the fight against terrorism will be compromised," he added further.

"The scenario is going to remain the same as long as major States the big powers continue to have this big policy of my terrorist is better than your terrorist or god terrorist or bad terrorist," he said.

Notably, China was the first country to appoint an ambassador to war-torn Afghanistan under Taliban regime to boost investment and trade ties.

The targeted attacks on Chinese nationals continue to loom including an assault on Kabul hotel popular with Chinese investors. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for many of them.
