End of Road? Canadian PM Justin Trudeau won't contest upcoming federal polls, might quit politics

PTC News Desk: Battered Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that he will not be contesting upcoming general elections in Canada which are scheduled for this year. In a surprise announcement he also said he might quit politics. 


This is a surprise end of a career for Trudeau, who, a decade back, was celebrated as a young, energetic leader.


“In terms of my own decisions, I will not be running in the upcoming election,” Trudeau said during a press conference. The media interaction came after a meeting between Trudeau and the premiers of Canada’s provinces, aimed at chalking out a common strategy to deal with upcoming US administration under the leadership of Donald Trump.


Trudeau expressed uncertainty as to what his post-political life will be, as he said, “As to what I might be doing later, I honestly haven’t had much time to think about that at all, I am entirely focused on doing the job that Canadians elected me to do in an extraordinarily pivotal time right now.”


Trudeay also said he hadn't much time to think as of what will be his future plans post politics.

Recently Justin Trudeau announced his decision to step down as leader of Liberal party and will resign as Prime Minister of Canada after his successor will be chosen.
