PTC News Desk: A Canadian police officer has been suspended after a video showing him participating in a pro-Khalistan protest outside a Hindu temple in Brampton surfaced on social media, according to media sources.
The suspended Peel Regional Police officer, Harinder Sohi, was seen on camera brandishing a Khalistan flag while other protesters chanted anti-India slogans, according to CBC News.
Sohi was a sergeant at Peel Regional Police.
According to Media Relations Officer Richard Chin's email to CBC News, the police force is "aware of a video circulating on social media which shows an off-duty Peel Police officer involved in a demonstration". "This officer has since been suspended in accordance with the Community Safety and Policing Act," he added.
"We are investigating the circumstances in totality depicted in the video and are unable to provide further information until this investigation is complete."
Peel Regional Police previously stated that three persons had been charged after violence occurred while Indian consular officials visited the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple on Sunday.
Videos circulating on social media appear to show protesters carrying banners in support of Khalistan, fighting with others, some of whom are waving India's national flag.
The videos appear to show fist fights and people beating each other with poles on the grounds of the Hindu Sabha Mandir temple.
Peel police said the event was then moved to two different places in nearby Mississauga, where further demonstrations took place.
