PTC News Desk: Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Muhammad Yunus, announced on Sunday that the interim government will seek the extradition of deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India after her government was overthrown in August following a massive protest.

In an address to the nation marking the end of the interim government's 100-day term, Yunus stated that his government has been working tirelessly to protect the security of all citizens, especially religious minorities.

"We must secure justice in all killings...We will also request that India extradite fallen autocrat, Sheikh Hasina," Yunus was quoted as saying by the state-run news outlet BSS.

His words imply a U-turn, as Yunus stated in an interview with the UK-based Financial Times newspaper last month that his administration would not seek Hasina's extradition from India immediately.

Yunus, who took office on August 8, said that over 1500 people, including students and workers, were killed and 19,931 others injured during the protest against the Hasina government.

"Our government is cautious to collect information on every death," he added, saying that the government has made plans for the injured to be treated at various specialised hospitals, including 13 in Dhaka.

Hasina, 77, resigned and fled to India after major student and other protests over her administration's controversial quota system for government jobs.
