Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina lands in India; likely to depart for London
In the wake of her resignation, the Bangladesh army, which reportedly gave her a 45-minute ultimatum to step down, has taken control of the government
Bangladesh protests: Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina landed at Hindon Air Force Base in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday evening. Earlier that day, the 76-year-old leader, who has served as Prime Minister five times, resigned after violent protests over a government jobs quota led to the deaths of over 300 persons. Sources said Sheikh Hasina was expected to leave for London almost immediately.
In the wake of her resignation, the Bangladesh army, which reportedly gave her a 45-minute ultimatum to step down, has taken control of the government. Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, in a televised address, announced that the military will form an "interim government" and called on protesters to maintain peace.
