1 dead, several injured in suspected shooting attack in southern Israel
The strike happened in the midst of the region's rising bloodshed as Israel continues to fight extremist groups in Gaza and Lebanon.
PTC News Desk: At least one person has been killed and 10 others injured in a suspected shooting attack in Beersheba, a city in southern Israel, on Sunday, according to local police. The incident occurred at the central station in Beersheba and is being treated as a "suspected terrorist attack."
Israel's national ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), confirmed the casualties, stating that a 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while 10 others were being evacuated for medical treatment. The police have reported that the attacker was "neutralized" at the scene, and security forces from the southern district have been deployed to the area.
The attack comes during a period of heightened violence as Israel continues its ongoing military conflict with militant groups in Gaza and Lebanon. This follows a deadly Hamas-claimed shooting in Tel Aviv last week, where seven people were killed. That incident occurred alongside a missile attack launched by Iran, escalating tensions further.
Earlier the same day, Israeli airstrikes targeted a mosque in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 19 people, according to Palestinian officials. The mosque, located near a hospital in Deir al-Balah, was reportedly sheltering displaced civilians. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted militants, though no specific evidence was provided.
Additionally, Israel has intensified its military operations in northern Gaza, especially around Jabaliya, a densely populated refugee camp. Both ground and air operations are underway in response to continued rocket attacks from Hamas and other militant factions.
