New Consumer Protection Act 2019 comes into force; All you need to know
The new Consumer Protection Act has come to force from Monday replacing old Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The newly enacted Consumer Protection Act 2019 seeks to renovate the process of administration and settlement of consumer disputes.
It also comes with strict penalties, including jail term for adulteration and misleading ads by firms.
The bill also proposes to set up the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) to promote, protect, and enforce the rights of the consumers as a class. As per the report, it would help prevent consumers from unfair trade practices.
