During the court hearing of 1984 Sikh Massacre in which more than 3000 Sikhs lost their lives and many others sustained life-threatening injuries, Patiala house court,on Thursday reserved its judgement on quantum of sentence.
While,the matter was over in the court ,the Shiromani Akali Dal,Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) and General Secretary of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Committee, Manjinder Singh Sirsa slapped one of the anti riot sikh convict,Yashpal Singh,when his colleagues mocked and made comments on Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
The convicts were being taken away by police and tussle begin after comments were passed by supporters of convicts.
The incident took place when the court had announced the decision on quantum of sentence for two guilty.The two guilty were convicted by the Patiala house court,on Wednesday.
The two convicted men Naresh Sehrawat and Yashpal Singh allegedly followed the instructions of a then leader.The two Sikh men who lost their lives in the anti-Sikh riots on November 1, 1984, were Hardev Singh, who was then 24 years old, and Avtar Singh, 26.
Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Parbandhak Commitee (DSGPC) advocates in the court had asked for the punishment of death sentence.Delhi police had closed the case in 1994 for want of evidence. However, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the riots had reopened the case in 2015.
