Watch: Farmers' protest in Punjab's Sangrur enters Day 3; rain fails to dampen their spirit

Sangrur, October 11: Braving heavy rain, thousands of farmers, led by the BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan), continued to block a 3-km stretch leading to Sangrur from the Patiala-Bathinda highway on Tuesday to lodge their protest against the pending demands. They have turned the area into 'Singhu' border, where farmers camped for over a year to seek the repeal of the three farm laws. Similar on the pattern of the farmers' movement, farmers continue to reach the dharna site in Sangrur everyday. Heavy rainfall for the past two days has damaged farmers' tent, but they are committed towards their resolve. There are also reports of rain water entering the pandals of the farmers. Community kitchens have also been set up. Makeshift houses and tents, temporary toilets and kitchens on the 3-km stretch resemble Tikri and Singu border, the protest sites of the farmers' movement. This protest site passes through a colony where Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s residence is located. The main demands included relief for damaged crops and for the death of their cows due to lumpy skin disease;  hike in land acquisition compensation; closure of a liquor manufacturing unit at Mansurwal village near Zira and the cancellation of cases registered against farmers for burning stubble. They are also demanding a bonus of Rs 200 per quintal for the management of stubble.
