PTC Web Desk: Uber India has unveiled a series of cutting-edge safety measures to enhance security for both passengers and drivers, with a special emphasis on women’s safety. These features, including audio recording, women rider preference, customisable safety settings, and SOS integration, aim to create a safer travel experience.

Check Out Key Features

Audio Recording: Passengers and drivers can now record audio during trips if they feel uneasy. The recordings are securely encrypted and can only be accessed by Uber if submitted as part of a safety report, ensuring privacy under India’s one-party consent law. This feature is now available across India.

Women rider preference for women drivers: The new "women rider preference" feature allows women drivers to choose only female passengers, enhancing their comfort and safety, especially during late-night trips. Over 21,000 trips have already been completed using this feature. Uber hopes this initiative will encourage more women to join the platform, where currently only 2% of drivers are women.

Customisable safety settings for every trip: Riders can personalise their safety settings through features like RideCheck, which detects unusual activities such as long stops or route deviations. Riders can also share trip details with trusted contacts and activate automatic audio recording.

SOS integration for quick emergency help: The SOS integration feature lets riders and drivers share their live location and trip details with the police during emergencies for prompt assistance. Already operational in Telangana, the feature is now being tested in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.
