Maharashtra hair loss mystery: Several residents go bald within a week due to unexplained mass hair loss
Many pointed out bald spots that developed seemingly overnight, leaving them both puzzled and anxious survey begins
PTC Web Desk: A bizarre health scare has struck three villages in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district, where several residents have reportedly gone bald within a week due to unexplained mass hair loss. Health officials suspect water contamination caused by fertilisers may be the culprit behind this alarming phenomenon.
The villages of Borgaon, Kalwad, and Hingna in the Shegaon tehsil have witnessed an unprecedented health crisis, with men and women alike losing large clumps of hair. Residents have described the experience as shocking, with hair falling out in tufts and bald patches forming in just days.
On camera, distressed villagers demonstrated how even a slight pull on their hair causes it to fall out. Many pointed out bald spots that developed seemingly overnight, leaving them both puzzled and anxious.
The unusual situation has prompted a high-level investigation by district health officials. A team, led by Shegaon Health Officer Dr Deepali Rahekar, visited the affected villages to assess the situation.
The team has collected water, skin, and hair samples for testing to determine the exact cause. So far, at least 50 persons have been identified as suffering from this rapid hair loss, and doctors fear the number could rise. While awaiting test results, the health department has advised residents to prioritise hygiene and take precautions to safeguard their health.
