PTC Web Desk: Doctors at Nazareth Hospital in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, performed a rare surgery on a man's nose to remove a live foreign body.
Doctors said Cecil Andrew's nostril had been bleeding for several days and he was experiencing strange movements inside his nose.
Upon examination, a live leech was discovered deep within his left nostril.
Dr. Subhash Chandra Verma, a surgeon in the hospital's ENT Department, performed this operation using the telescope method, which did not cause any tissue damage.
"The patient bathed in stagnant water at a waterfall in Uttarakhand two weeks ago. It is common to see leeches attached to the external parts of people's bodies after bathing in a pond or lake, but finding a leech inside the nose is an unusual and rare occurrence. Fortunately, the zoic did not reach the brain or eye," he explained.
Dr. Verma added that the patient is healthy and recovering.
