Asia's largest tulip garden is now open for public in Srinagar

The garden has over 15 lakh tulips of various colours and hues.

New Delhi, March 21: The largest tulip garden in Jammu and Kashmir is opened on March 19 for public. Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden is Asia’s largest, it is located between the Zabarwan hills in Srinagar and Dal Lake, the garden has over 15 tulips of various hues and colours. 

The Indian Administrative Service officer Saloni Rai on Monday took to Twitter to share some amazing pictures of the garden, it is a treat to the eyes. She has posted various pictures and captioned it, ''Tulip Garden in Srinagar is now open for tourists and is absolutely a treat to the eyes!

The pictures have gone viral on all social media platforms. One user wrote, ''And the best pictures were always taken by our eyes and instantly delivered the peace, joy, happiness, refreshment and hope to our heart when we visit such places and see them. That garden is so mesmerizing to watch.''

"Preparations like gardening, engineering, fungicide treatment, nutrient spraying and minor repair which we do before the tulip show are going on," said Inam-ul-Rehman, who is in charge of the garden.

"Every year we expand this garden and new varieties are displayed here. This year, we have extended the fountain channel," he said.

 To keep the flowers for a month or more, the floriculture department plants the tulip bulbs in a phased manner so. 

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at the opening ceremony said that the garden witnessed 3.60 lakh visitors last year. Since then it is one of the highest. As per the Srinagar tourist website, the garden was opened in 2007 with the aim of boosting floriculture and tourism in the Kashmir Valley.
