Centre had sent a team of Delhi Police Special Cell to Azerbaijan to arrest notorious gangster Sachin Bishnoi, who is charged with the murder of Sidhu Moosewala
PTC Web Desk: Sachin Bishnoi, alias Sachin Thapan, one of the accused in Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala murder case, has been extradited to India from Baku, Azerbaijan, by the Delhi Police Special Cell. He was produced in Patiala House Court, which sent him to 10-day remand of Delhi Police.
Sachin Bishnoi was produced in the Patiala House Court lock up due to security reasons. The court has directed the Delhi Police to ensure his safety and security. Sachin Bishnoi, who is the nephew of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been evading the authorities since the murder of Sidhu Moosewala in May last year. He managed to escape the country using a forged passport and had been on the run ever since.
He said he was facing at least 15 cases Punjab (4), Rajasthan (4), Haryana (1), New Delhi (2), 1 case of MCOCA and three cases of counter-intelligence cell.
The top cop said, "It is not easier to hide abroad after committing crime in India."
Notably, the Centre had sent a team of the Delhi Police Special Cell to Azerbaijan to arrest the notorious gangster Sachin Bishnoi, who is charged with the murder of Sidhu Moosewala. In August last year, he was detained in Azerbaijan, and he subsequently filed an appeal before a higher appellate authority in the country to prevent his extradition. However, his appeal was rejected in July this year.
Earlier, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had successfully extradited gangster Vikramjeet Singh, also known as Vikram Brar, from the UAE. Brar is an accomplice of Lawrence Bishnoi and is involved in several cases associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including the targeted killing of Sidhu Moosewala.
Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead on May 29 last year in Mansa, a day after the Punjab government curtailed his security cover.
The singer was shot at point-blank range and declared dead on arrival at the Mansa civil hospital. The assailants fired over 30 rounds at Moosewala, who was found slumped in the driver's seat by locals.
The investigation suggested gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was the mastermind of the daylight killing. His close aide Goldy Brar, who is said to be based in Canada, was also under investigation in this case. Police issued a Red Corner Notice against Brar through Interpol.
