Punjab: Multi-storey shawl store in Ludhiana's Mochpura Bazaar gutted; shop owner suffers losses in crores
Fire tenders had to use long water pipes to douse flames as store is located in congested market
Ludhiana, December 30: Sandeep Textiles, a multi-storey shawl store at Ludhiana's Mochpura Bazaar, was gutted after a fire broke out following a short circuit on Friday. As per information, stock worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed.
The fire was reported at 7 am and the shop was closed that time. Firefighters had a tough time bringing the fire under control as the store is located in a congested market. Fire tenders had to use long water pipes to douse the flames.

More than 40 fire tenders were roped in and it too over three hours to bring the flames under control. Most shops in Mochpura Bazaar are related to woolen products, which spread panic among other traders.
As per preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is stated to be a short circuit. The fire was first notice by passersby, who reported the matter to the shop owner and fire station. The shop was gutted.
Meanwhile, local residents also helped in dousing the flames. The fire engulfed all four floors of the building.

Shopkeepers alleged that wires could be seen dangling in corridors of the market. They had reported the matter to Powercom several times, but to no avail.
Shop owner Harish Madan said the fire broke out due to a short circuit since many electrical wires were dangling in his neighborhood.
