Patiala, July 19: The city of Patiala and its neighboring areas experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday morning, resulting in a flood-like situation in numerous areas. The downpour caused significant problems as sewerage lines and drains became choked, leading to the flooding of many houses.

Despite the previous week's heavy rainfall that resulted in widespread inundation, the Municipal Corporation failed to learn from the experience and neglected to clear the drains and sewerage lines adequately. This negligence has once again caused a flood-like situation in various parts of the city.

Residents in several colonies expressed their grievances as water entered their homes due to the clogged sewerage lines. They criticized the Municipal Corporation for focusing solely on the flooded areas and neglecting to provide essential services to other parts of the city, resulting in flooding incidents in colonies like Police Lines.

Rajesh Kumar, a resident of Police Lines, stated, "Despite the losses worth lakhs that we suffered from the heavy rainfall last week, the corporation has been preoccupied with the flooded areas and has failed to ensure basic amenities for other parts of the city. As a result, many colonies, including ours, are now experiencing flooding."

The situation highlights the urgent need for the Municipal Corporation to prioritise the maintenance and clearance of sewerage lines and drains to prevent such incidents in the future.
