Lawrence Bishnoi jail interview: Punjab govt suspends two DSPs, other officials in case

PTC News Desk: In a major develoment in Lawrence Bishnoi jail interview, Punjab government has suspended several police officials including two DSPs for allegedly carrying out a TV interview of top gangster Lawrence Bishnoi who was in custody of Punjab Police at Kharar CIA station.


“Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, all above officers and cops have been suspended...,” the order said.

The Home department has issued the suspension orders of deputy superintendent-rank officers Gursher Singh Sandhu and Sammer Vaneet. Others suspended cops include sub-inspector Reena, CIA, Kharar (SAS Nagar), sub-inspector (LR) Jagatpal Jangu, AGTF, sub-inspector (LR) Shaganjit Singh (the then duty officer), and head constable Om Parkash ( Kharar CIA staff).


Two interviews of Bishnoi were aired on March 14 and March 17 while he was in Bathinda Jail. SIT conducting the investigation registered FIRs under IPC sections 384 (extortion), 201 (concealment of evidence), 202 (intentionally withholding information about an offence), 506 (criminal intimidation), 116 (abetment of offences that are punishable by imprisonment) and 120-b(criminal conspiracy) and 52-A (1) of the Prisons (Punjab Amendment) Act, 2011.

At the time when Bishnoi was shifted to Kharar CIA custody in case related to Sidhu Moosewala murder, Gursher was posted as DSP (investigations).  

A prime suspect in the murder of Sidhu Moosewala and Baba Siddique, Lawrence Bishnoi is also accused by Canada government for involvement in 2023 Hardeep Singh Nijjar murder.
