PTC News Desk: In a surprising turn of events, the BJP made a remarkable comeback in the Haryana Assembly elections after early leads indicated a Congress surge. As the BJP pulled ahead and crossed the majority mark, social media erupted in a frenzy over the term "jalebi," which quickly became a trending topic.

The reference to the traditional Indian sweet was a playful dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who had recently praised jalebis from a local shop, sparking a wave of memes and light-hearted jabs online.

BJP's jab at Rahul Gandhi over 'jalebi'

The "jalebi" buzz originated from an Instagram video shared by Rahul Gandhi, where he enthusiastically recounted his experience of eating jalebis from Maturam's Jalebi in Haryana. In the video, he claimed, “I tasted jalebi in the car and messaged my sister Priyanka, telling her that I had just eaten the best jalebi of my life. I’m bringing a box for you too." He even suggested that the sweet shop should consider opening factories globally to export their product.

However, BJP leaders were quick to mock the Congress leader, pointing out that jalebis are not mass-produced in factories but are traditionally made in local sweet shops.

Social Media Buzz

As Congress supporters began celebrating early results on October 8 with dhols and jalebis, exit polls had predicted a Congress victory in Haryana. However, just hours into the vote count, the BJP surged ahead, securing a clear majority in the 90-member Assembly. This unexpected turn of events fueled a flurry of social media posts, with BJP leaders and supporters using "jalebi" as a symbol of their victory.

Assam Minister Ashok Singhal took to Twitter, posting a photo of himself enjoying jalebi with the caption, “Mitron, Kha lo jalebi... Aaj party hogi heavy,” in a humorous jab at Congress. Another user joked, "Haryana elections turned out to be more complicated than jalebi—twisted more than expected. But in the end, it’s Modi who gets to eat it."

Memes and Music

The social media "jalebi" craze saw an array of creative posts. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla shared a video of himself posing with jalebis, and netizens joined in the fun by circulating memes, photos, and even playing the hit song "Jalebi Baby" by Jason Derulo to add to the playful atmosphere.

What began as a light-hearted comment from Rahul Gandhi about a local sweet turned into a viral moment on social media, underscoring BJP's triumphant return to power in Haryana, and turning the "jalebi" into a symbol of political celebration.
