Union Health Minister to Present Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill for Consideration in Rajya Sabha
Breaking LIVE UPDATES: Parliament Monsoon Session: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the Lok Sabha on Thursday in response to the no-confidence motion put forth by the Opposition against the NDA government.
In a confirmation made by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday, he stated, "The Prime Minister will be present in the House on Thursday to respond to the no-confidence motion."
Similarly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also affirmed that the Prime Minister would be present in the House on Thursday to provide his response to the no-confidence motion.
The opposition submitted a no-confidence motion against the Modi government on July 26, which was duly accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. However, the government is not at risk of losing the vote, given the substantial majority enjoyed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in the Lok Sabha.
Any Lok Sabha Member of Parliament, with the backing of 50 colleagues, can introduce a motion of no-confidence against the Council of Ministers. Subsequently, a debate on the motion ensues, with proponents highlighting the government's shortcomings and the Treasury Benches addressing the raised concerns. Ultimately, a vote is held, and if the motion garners sufficient support, the government is compelled to step down.
Notably, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) possesses a robust majority with 331 MPs, out of which the BJP accounts for 303 MPs. In contrast, the combined strength of the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A stands at 144, with an additional 70 MPs from unaligned parties in the Lower House.
This marks the second instance where Prime Minister Narendra Modi faces a no-confidence motion. The debate on the motion was initiated by Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday, which later escalated into a heated exchange between the Opposition and the Centre.
According to the revised list of parliamentary business, several ministers are slated to make statements and introduce bills on various matters, including the regulation of appointments, service conditions of officials, and amendments to existing enactments. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to move a bill aimed at amending the Pharmacy Act, 1948.
Moreover, the Lok Sabha agenda includes ministers laying papers on the table, discussing the implementation of recommendations from standing committees, and addressing amendments to various acts concerning sectors such as health, power, finance, and urban development.
