Classmates to become Indian Army and Navy Chiefs for first time in military history

At Sainik School in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, in the 1970s, Army Chief Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi were classmates in Class 5.

PTC News Desk: For the first time in Indian military history, two classmates will hold the rank of service chief in the Indian Army and Navy.

At Sainik School in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, in the 1970s, Army Chief Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi were classmates in Class 5.

Their roll numbers in Class 5A were 931 and 938, respectively, according to news agency ANI.


In a post on X, the official spokesperson for Defense Minister A Bharat Bhushan Babu stated, "The Chiefs of the Army and Navy are the first in Indian military history to attend the same university. Sainik School, Rewa in Madhya Pradesh has the unique distinction of having produced two outstanding pupils who would go on to lead their respective Services fifty years later."

On May 1, Admiral Tripathi assumed leadership of the Indian Navy; on June 30, Lieutenant General Dwivedi will become the new head of the Army.
