Apple computer shipments decline 40 pc in Q1 of 2023

Among the top five PC vendors, Apple's shipments dropped the most, with Lenovo, HP, Dell Technologies, and Asus experiencing a 30 per cent, 24 per cent, 31 per cent, and 30 per cent drop, respectively.

Needham, April 11: According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) report, Apple's computer shipments experienced a 40 per cent decline in the January-March quarter of 2023 due to low demand and weak economic conditions. 

Among the top five PC vendors, Apple's shipments dropped the most, with Lenovo, HP, Dell Technologies, and Asus experiencing a 30 per cent, 24 per cent, 31 per cent, and 30 per cent drop, respectively. Worldwide, PC shipments dropped by 29.0 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2022, reaching 56.9 million.

IDC believes that the PC market will suffer in the short-term but may see a return to growth by the end of the year if the global economy improves. Linn Huang, Research Vice President at IDC, stated that if the recession persists into the next year, recovery could be a slow process.

"If recession in key markets drags on into next year, recovery could be a slog," said Linn Huang, research vice president, Devices and Displays at IDC.
