Tomar: Today's talks with farmers unions were not decisive

Narendra Singh Tomar on Farmers-Centre meeting today: Amid a continuous deadlock over farm laws 2020 between farmers’ organizations and the Centre, both sides held the 9th round of meeting today. The next meeting will now be held on January 19 at 12 noon. Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, "The government will present its side before the committee constituted by the Supreme Court when asked." We are positive to reach a solution through talks. The government is concerned about the farmers protesting in cold conditions. The minister said, "Congress party laughs at statements & actions of Rahul Gandhi, it mocks at him. I'd like to tell him that in their 2019 election manifesto, Congress had promised that they'll bring this reform. If he doesn't remember, he should read the manifesto again." Adding, "If it is mentioned in the manifesto, then Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi should appear before the media and accept that they were either lying at that time or are lying now." The Centre again suggested talking to the farmers ‘clause by clause’, which was rejected. The farmers said nothing will be acceptable except repeal of the laws. The farmers’ have been protesting at Delhi borders against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. -PTC News
