Tokyo Olympics 2020: Meet unsung heroes behind the success of India's medal winners

With the highest-ever haul of seven medals, India has created history at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. The nation's players bagged one Gold, 2 Silver, and 4 Bronze. Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bagged the gold medal while Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting) and Ravi Kumar Dahiya (wrestling) bagged silver medals. Wrestler Bajrang Punia, shuttler PV Sindhu, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and the Indian men's hockey team lifted bronze medals for the country. Although these players made the nation proud, there are some unsung heroes, who actually led them to victory. Klaus Bartonietz

Satpal Singh

The former Asian Games gold medalist, popularly known as 'Guru Satpal', trained Ravi Kumar Dahiya who won the silver medal for India at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Dahiya was defeated by ROC’s Zavur Uguev in the semifinals of the 57kg freestyle category to settle at bronze.

Vijay Sharma

Vijay Sharma is the coach of Mirabai Chanu, India's first medalist at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Earlier, Mirabai had won gold in the 2017 World Championships under the guidance of Vijay. Park Tae-Sang

Former Korean singles shuttler Park Tae-Sang has been coaching PV Sindhu since 2019. He has been training her and now she won a bronze medal in the women's singles Badminton event at Tokyo Olympics for India.

Mohammad Ali Qamar

Mohammad Ali Qamar is behind the success of boxer Lovlina Borgohain who won a bronze medal in the women's welterweight category for India at the Tokyo Olympics. Earlier, she had won a gold medal at the Commonwealth games. Mohammad Ali Qamar himself is the first Indian boxer to have won a gold medal at the Commonwealth games. Shako Bentinidis

Georgian coach trained Bajrang Punia who won a bronze medal in wrestling's 65kg category at Tokyo 2020. Shako Bentinidis himself is the three-tine Olympian and shares a father-son-like bond with Bajrang.

Grahan Reid

The man who guided the Indian men's hockey team to win a bronze medal in Tokyo is Grahan Reid. He took over as coach for the men's hockey team in April 2019. He guided the team to achieve the milestone by winning a medal after 41 years.
