Taxi union holds protest outside Ludhiana MLA Gurpreet Gogi’s residence

Ludhiana, September 07: Employees of private taxi union staged a strong protest outside residence of Ludhiana West Constituency MLA Gurpreet Gogi regarding the fulfillment of their demands. Private taxi drivers have been protesting for the fulfillment of their demands and rights across Punjab. In a meantime, taxi drivers also submitted a letter of demand to RTA Ludhiana regarding their demands. Taxi Union also demanded a meeting with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to listen and resolve their demands. - The drivers and owners of private taxi union demanded for the implementation of Aggregator Policy in Punjab.
- Taxi union demanded to repeal the Motor Vehicles Taxation Act 1924 and Taxation Amendment Bill 2021 which was passed by the Congress Government in the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
- Apart from this, union also demanded the ban of taxi applications such as bla-bla App, In-Driver, etc.
- To clear the tax which were due during Covid pandemic. State Transport Commissioner Dr. Amarpal Singh released Rs 138 crore for Stage Carriage Buses and School College Buses but All India Tourist Permit Buses and Taxis (PB 01) tax was not waived during Corona crisis, reconsidering the tax due at that time on tourist/taxi vehicles should also be waived off.
- Government should provide more employment to youth of Punjab.
