Sumedh Saini gets a reprieve, interim order to continue till September 1

Punjab: An interim relief was granted to the former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in the Balwant Singh Multani case. According to the information, the SIT constituted to investigate the Balwant Singh Multani case had been conducting raids at Chandigarh, Mohali, and Himachal Pradesh to arrest Sumedh Singh Saini, before the court stayed the arrest of the former top cop till September 1. Sumedh Saini’s counsel APS Deol moved an application in the court on Friday morning after the Mohali police and the Special Operations Group raided Saini’s house in Sector-20. The court in its order stated that the courts have been ordered to remain closed on every working Saturday for the time being, therefore, August 29, the date already fixed would not be a working day. As such present bail application is adjourned to September 1 for remaining arguments, it added. On Friday morning, a team of Punjab Police conducted a raid at Sumedh Singh Saini's house in Chandigarh which was led by DSP-Detective, Mohali, Vikramjit Brar. The team included Mohali police and the SOG (Special Operations Group). It is pertinent to mention that the court had added Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code in the case against Sumedh Saini. -PTC News
