PTC News Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed on Sunday that Rohit Sharma will lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy and World Test Championship (WTC) finals in 2025. Shah's remark came exactly one week after Rohit led the Men in Blue to a historic victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa in Barbados.

In a video shared by the BCCI on Sunday, Shah recalled how he had backed Rohit to help India recover from a heartbreaking loss in the ODI World Cup final last November to T20 World Cup glory, and he appeared delighted that his prediction had come true. With the Champions Trophy and WTC Final approaching, he remains confident that India will continue its title-winning streak under Rohit.

"On November 23, after winning ten matches, we won hearts, but not the Cup. I promised in Rajkot that on June 29, we would win hearts, win the Cup, and hoist the Barbados flag. And our captain hoisted it there," Shah explained.

"After this win, the upcoming ICC events -- WTC final and the Champions Trophy, I am fully confident that our team, under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, will become champions."

Shah's comment implies that India will use split captaincy in international cricket until Rohit retires from all formats. While the latter will continue to lead the Test and ODI teams, Hardik Pandya is expected to take over the T20Is after Rohit announced his retirement from the format last year.

The Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan next year. It will be the first international cricket match in eight years (since 2017 in the United Kingdom).
