PTC News Desk: India’s Test and ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, is enjoying some well-deserved time off after leading his team to a 2-0 series victory over Bangladesh in a recent Test series. This win not only boosted India’s position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), but also solidified their hold on the top spot with 74.24 percentage points.

As Rohit unwinds before his next assignment, a video has surfaced online capturing a heartwarming moment between him and one of his fans on the streets of Mumbai. While cruising in his luxurious Lamborghini, Rohit was approached by excited fans.

Among them, one pointed to a girl and told the Indian skipper it was her birthday. In an incredible gesture, Rohit turned towards the girl, waved, and wished her a happy birthday, leaving her delighted. The brief but sweet interaction has since gone viral, showcasing the captain’s down-to-earth personality despite his towering stature in Indian cricket.

With Rohit having retired from T20 internationals, his focus is now firmly on leading the Test and ODI sides. His short break from the game is a chance to recharge before India’s upcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand, which is set to take place from October 16 to November 5. This series is crucial for India, as they aim to secure their place in the 2025 WTC final at Lord’s.

India’s journey towards the WTC final requires them to win three more matches in this cycle. Having reached the final in the last two WTC editions but falling short both times—losing to New Zealand in 2021 and to Australia in 2023—India will be eager to make amends.

For Rohit Sharma, who took over the Test captaincy after Virat Kohli’s resignation in early 2022, maintaining consistency will be critical as he leads the team into this important phase. The core of the Indian squad remains largely unchanged, with star bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj spearheading the pace attack. However, new talents are beginning to emerge, such as fast bowler Akash Deep, who impressed during the series against Bangladesh and is expected to retain his spot in the squad.

Meanwhile, the middle-order competition continues, with KL Rahul likely to hold his position over Sarfaraz Khan, who will serve as a backup in case of injury.

As India prepares for the New Zealand series, Rohit’s calm and approachable demeanor off the field, as seen in the viral birthday video, reflects his leadership style—firm yet grounded. Fans will be eagerly watching as Rohit leads the team in their bid for a third consecutive WTC final.
