Paris Olympics 2024: Vinesh Phogat enters her maiden Olympic semifinals
Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat advanced to the semifinals of the women's 50 kg freestyle category at the Paris Olympics 2024 after defeating Ukraine's Oksana Livach in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Phogat defeated Oksana 7-5 and is now just one win away from a confirmed medal, according to Olympics.com.
In the quarterfinals, Vinesh led 2-0 after the first period. However, Oksana managed to put up a fight in the second period. But Vinesh, the World Championships medallist, held off the Ukrainian threat and advanced to the semifinals.
Vinesh's next opponent will be either Cuba's Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, a Pan American Games champion, or Gabija Dilyte of Lithuania in the semifinals, starting at 10:25 PM IST.
The ace Indian wrestler had a fantastic start to her Paris Olympics campaign, defeating the top seed and Tokyo 2020 champion Yui Susaki of Japan in the women's 50kg freestyle round of 16 on Tuesday.
Susaki led 1-0 at the end of the first period, but Vinesh made a remarkable comeback in the second period, outperforming her Japanese opponent by miles to score a 3-2 victory and go to the quarterfinals.
