Paris Olympics 2024: Balraj Panwar, India's lone rower at the Paris Olympics 2024, advanced to the repechages after coming fourth in the Men’s Single Sculls event on Saturday. 

The 25-year-old rower finished in 7:07.11, trailing New Zealand's Thomas Mackintosh (6:55.92), Stefanos Ntouskos (7:01.79), and Abdelkhalek Elbanna (7:05.06). 

The top three in each heat advance to the quarterfinals. Panwar will have a second chance to proceed to the semifinals or finals through repechages. Panwar finished fourth at the 2022 Asian Games in China and won a bronze medal at the Asian and Oceanian Olympic Qualification Regatta in Korea.

The 25-year-old from Haryana began rowing in 2020 and soon rose through the ranks of national rowing events, winning medals at the 40th and 41st Senior National Rowing Championships, as well as the 37th National Games in Goa. According to the official release, he also earned a bronze medal in the 500 metres at the 41st Senior National Championship.
