Indian Women's Hockey team announces names for Germany, Spanish Tournament
The Indian team's schedule includes three Test matches in Germany, one against China and two against Germany, scheduled from July 16 to July 19.
New Delhi, July 4: Hockey India has announced the 20-member Indian Women's Hockey Team that will participate in the upcoming Germany Tour and the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament in Spain. These tournaments are essential for the team's preparations leading up to the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.
The Indian team's schedule includes three Test matches in Germany, one against China and two against Germany, scheduled from July 16 to 19. Following the Germany tour, the team will travel to Spain, where they will compete against South Africa, England, and the hosts in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation-International Tournament. The matches in Spain will take place from July 25 to 30 in Terrassa.
The selected Indian team comprises highly talented and dedicated individuals who have been continuously improving their skills during the National Coaching Camp held at the SAI Centre in Bengaluru.
Savita, the goalkeeper, has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team, while Deep Grace Ekka will serve as the Vice Captain. Bichu Devi Kharibam has been chosen as the second goalkeeper for the squad. The defensive lineup consists of Deep Grace Ekka, Nikki Pradhan, Ishika Chaudhary, Udita, and Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam.
The midfielders in the team include Nisha, Monika, Salima Tete, Neha, Navneet Kaur, Sonika, Baljeet Kaur, Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke, and Jyoti Chhatri.
The forward line will be led by the experienced Vandana Katariya, supported by Lalremsiami, Sangita Kumari, and Deepika.

Janneke Schopman, the Chief Coach, expressed her excitement about the team selection and emphasised the significance of these tours for the team's development. She believes that the Spain and Germany tours will provide a great platform for the players to showcase their abilities and skills on the international stage.
Schopman praised the team's performance during the camp and highlighted their dedication to improving their game. The upcoming tours will allow the team to test themselves against strong opponents, maintain team unity, and execute their strategies effectively. The primary goal is to play their own game while utilising the learnings from the coaching camp and the previous tour.
Schopman also highlighted the importance of these tours in the context of the Asian Games, as they will provide valuable insights and help identify areas for further improvement. Learning from each match and growing as a team will be crucial for the team's success.
