Harmanpreet Kaur controversy: BCCI officials to address on-field outburst and ICC ban
ICC's 2-match ban sidelines India's skipper Kaur from the first two Asian Games 2023 matches
Harmanpreet Kaur controversy: Harmanpreet Kaur's recent on-field outburst has caused concern within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Jay Shah, BCCI's honorary secretary, announced that President Roger Binny and National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will have a conversation with India women's team captain, Harmanpreet, regarding her unruly behavior during the third ODI against Bangladesh on July 22 in Dhaka.
The ICC has already handed a 2-match ban to Harmanpreet Kaur, which means she will miss the first two matches of the Asian Games 2023. Consequently, Smriti Mandhana will lead the Indian team in her absence at the Asiad in Hangzhou.
Former India captain Mithali Raj expressed her discontent with Kaur's behavior, calling it disgraceful and atrocious. Mithali stressed the importance of cricketers being role models for youngsters and conducting themselves in a dignified manner both on and off the field.
The Indian squad for the Asian Games 2023 includes Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wk), Amanjot Kaur, Devika Vaidya, Anjali Sarvani, Titas Sadhu, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Minnu Mani, Kanika Ahuja, Uma Chetry (wk), and Anusha Bareddy. Additionally, the standby list of players comprises Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Saika Ishaque, and Pooja Vastrakar.
