Gautam Gambhir may drop Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after becoming India head coach: Report
According to reports, Gautam Gambhir met with the Cricket Administrative Committee of the BCCI and put out five requirements, including choosing his support staff, controlling cricket operations, and maybe benching underperforming senior players, in order to take over as head coach of the Indian team.
PTC News Desk: When Raul Dravid's term as head coach ends during the 2024 T20 World Cup, Gautam Gambhir is reportedly the front-runner to take over. It is said that WV Raman and Gambhir were the only two applicants for the head coaching post.
In a recent meeting with the BCCI's Cricket Administrative Committee (CAC), Gambhir reportedly set five requirements for taking on the role of head coach for India, according to a new Navbharat Times story.

Gambhir's desire for complete control over Team India's cricket operations is the first prerequisite.
Furthermore, it has been stated that Gambhir has requested the ability to select his own support personnel. The current support staff consists of T Dilip as the fielding coach, Paras Mhambrey as the bowling coach, and Vikram Rathour as the batting coach.
The third and maybe most contentious requirement is that, should any of the four senior Indian players—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Shami—perform poorly in the next Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan, Gambhir intends to fire them.
Fourthly, when it comes to Test cricket, Gambhir wants his own team.
Lastly, Gambhir wants to get started early on creating the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Notably, when questioned lately about his thoughts on taking over as India's head coach, Gambhir responded that it was tough for him to respond to the subject at this time.

For now, all I can say is that I'm glad to be here. Let's celebrate having just completed an incredible trip with the Kolkata Knight Riders. I'm in a really joyful place at the moment."
