His previous statement that he would "love to coach the Indian team" indicates that he considers it an honour if given the chance. As Dravid's tenure with the Men in Blue draws to a close, Gambhir has been silent over the prospect of taking over for his old partner.
According to Binny, India needs a head coach with experience in all forms of cricket.
"Indian cricket will undoubtedly benefit if Gautam Gambhir accepts the position; he has a wealth of expertise. Because of his experience, India needs him. India requires a coach with experience playing the game and who has participated in all three game styles, Binny said ANI.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirement from Twenty20 internationals after India defeated South Africa in the Barbados World Cup final.
Though he wants younger players to fill the shoes of older players, Binny stated that the ace players will be "difficult to replace" in the format.
"They have been exceptional; finding a replacement for them will be quite challenging. This will be a huge loss right now. We should hopefully acquire some young players as there is a lot of promise in the IPL. Under Dravid's guidance, Team India made great strides, reaching the finals of both the 2023 World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup before losing to Australia in both competitions. "As a cricket player, Rahul has been outstanding. Because of the experience he brought to the table, he has made a huge addition to the team and did an amazing job working with them. Binny remarked, "It's just unfortunate that he lost the last World Cup and a few other games."
