800 students attend 8th Punjab State Gatka Championship

Gatka Championship: The Day 3 of 8th Punjab State Gatka Championship, organised by the Punjab Gatka Association under the leadership of the Gatka Federation of India, has begun at Gurdwara Ishar Prakash Ratwara Sahib, New Chandigarh.  

On this occasion, the President of the Punjab Gatka Association Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal welcomed the chief guests.  The championship was inaugurated by Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hare and Ratwada Sahib Trust Chairman Baba Lakhveer Singh.  During this, Punjab Warehouse Chairman Gurdev Singh Lakhna was also present.

Around 800 players in Under 14, 17, 19, 22, 25, and Under 28 competitions will participate in this 3-day championship. A 40 member’s team has been constituted by the association to conduct these competitions smoothly. This time, the championship will be conducted through the TSR system, and the results will be displayed on a big LED screen.

In his address on the occasion, Sports Minister Meet Hayer appreciated this valuable initiative taken by the Punjab Gatka Association and said that it is a valuable effort to connect the future with the golden history.  He said that Punjab has won the maximum number of medals in India in Gatka in Khelo India.  He expressed confidence that Gatka would take Punjab to new heights in the upcoming National Games as well.  He informed that the new sports policy will be implemented soon in Punjab.  Along with this, he announced that Punjab Gatka Association would soon be given a bigger ground in Punjab and other sports facilities would also be provided.


During this, in his address, Shri Ratwada Sahib Trust Chairman Baba Lakhveer Singh Ji blessed the children and said that this place is always available for such pious work.  

Addressing all the children who had come from every district of Punjab, he said," The community gets destroyed which forgets its heritage.  But today it is a matter of happiness that a large number of children in Khalsa form have come to play Gatka."

He further said, "These children are always attached to the words of their Guru."  

"Shastra Vidya has always proved helpful in keeping children away from drugs." He added.

Earlier, the President of the Punjab Gatka Association, Dr. Rajinder Singh Sohal encouraged the Players and motivated them to play fearlessly, and wished them well. He also emphasizes such kind of events to encourage more youngsters to join the Gatka game.

"This not only helps in keeping the kids away from drugs and connect with Bani but also helps in disciplining the players," Sohal said. 


During this, Gatka Federation of India President Harcharan Singh Bhullar IPS thanked Sports Minister Meet Hayer and Baba Lakhveer Singh.

Meanwhile, the association expressed special thanks to MD Verka Amit Dhaka IAS, Girish Dayalan IAS MD Markfed, and Rahul Gupta IAS AMD Markfed for arranging refreshments for the children.

On this occasion Baljinder Singh Toor General Secretary Gatka Federation of India, Jagkiran Kaur Waraich Joint Secretary, Davinder Singh Jugni Vice President Punjab Gatka Association, Arshad Dali, Prabhmeet Singh Media Incharge, Jagseer Singh Chandigarh, Jaswinder Singh Pabla, Jagdish Singh Kurali, Rajveer Singh, Raghubir  Singh Dehlon, Harman Singh and a large number of dignitaries were present.
