PTC Web Desk: In a historic moment for Indian cricket, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Samastipur, Bihar, became the youngest player ever to be sold in an IPL auction. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured Suryavanshi for Rs 1.10 crore during the IPL 2025 auction held on November 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, following an intense bidding war with Delhi Capitals (DC).

Suryavanshi, hailed as a cricket prodigy, has set his sights on the grandest T20 league in the world. His father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, expressed immense pride in his son’s achievements and dismissed age fraud allegations with confidence. "He first underwent a BCCI bone test at 8 and a half years old. He has already represented India U-19. We are open to any age verification test again," Sanjiv was reported as saying.

Vaibhav’s meteoric rise in cricket began early. In October 2024, he hit the fastest century by an Indian in Under-19 Tests, scoring 100 off just 58 balls against Australia U-19 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium. Earlier in January 2024, he made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy at the tender age of 12 years and 284 days, becoming the fourth-youngest Indian to achieve this milestone.

Sanjiv Suryavanshi shared the sacrifices made for his son’s cricketing journey. "He is not just my son but Bihar’s pride. I sold my land for his training and took him to and from his coaching sessions in Samastipur. Financial struggles persist, but this achievement makes it worthwhile," he said emotionally.

Joining Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav will work under the mentorship of Rahul Dravid, who has returned to the franchise as head coach. He will share the dressing room with stalwarts like Sanju Samson, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, and Jofra Archer.
