Russia-Ukraine war: Multiple explosions heard in Ukraine's Lviv

Lviv (Ukraine), March 13: Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, multiple explosions were heard in Ukraine's western city of Lviv on Sunday. Residents in Lviv rushed to bomb shelters after hearing air raid alerts earlier in the day. The airstrikes' targets have yet to be revealed, according to Ukrainian media outlets. According to the UNN news agency, explosions were heard in Kherson, Ukraine's southern city, and air alarms continued in most Ukrainian cities and oblasts. Meanwhile, Russia has abducted Yevhen Matveyev, Mayor of Dniprorudne in Vasylivka district, Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, informed the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. Explosions in Lviv amid missile attacks Kuleba urged the world community to come to Ukraine's aid and put an end to the Russian "terror." Russian invaders are not receiving local support in Ukraine, therefore they are resorting to terror, according to the Ukrainian FM. "Today, Russian war criminals abducted another democratically elected Ukrainian mayor, head of Dniprorudne Yevhen Matveyev. Getting zero local support, invaders turn to terror. I call on all states & international organizations to stop Russian terror against Ukraine and democracy," Kuleba tweeted. Explosions in Lviv amid missile attacks Notably, the abduction of the Dniprorudne Mayor is the second incident. Earlier, Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov was seen on video being led away from a government building in the city by armed men. However, the Russian-backed regional prosecutor in Luhansk came forward to support the mayor's detention, claiming that Fedorov had committed terrorism offences and was being investigated. Explosions in Lviv amid missile attacks Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine on February 24 and said the special operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only and the civilian population is not in danger. The West, on the other hand, dismisses the Russians' claims and has retaliated by imposing broad sanctions on Moscow.
