New Delhi, March 4: The Supreme Court has described the Punjab and Haryana High Court's order on a clear stay on the investigation in all cases against Punjab’s former police chief Sumedh Singh Saini and his arrest in all registered or likely to be registered cases till April 20 as "shocking".

The Supreme Court said, "How can it be possible to prevent the arrest in a case which has not been registered yet? It has now directed the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to refer the case to another judge.
Notably, about six months after the Punjab and Haryana High Court ordered a clear stay on the investigation in all cases against Punjab’s former police chief Sumedh Singh Saini and his arrest in all the registered or likely to be registered cases, Justice Arvind Singh Sangwan on Thursday extended the operation of the order till April 20, when the case will come up for the next hearing.
Punjab: SC orders to transfer Sumedh Saini case to another HC judge Justice Sangwan said: “List again on April 20. Interim order dated September 10, 2021, will continue till the next date of hearing.”
Justice Sangwan had earlier said that Saini’s involvement in multiple cases could be a “political ploy."
