Punjab reports 777 new Covid-19 cases, positivity rate at 2.68%

Punjab, February 7: Punjab reported 777 fresh Covid-19 cases on Sunday and the positivity rate in the state was recorded at 2.68 percent. At least 22 Covid patients succumbed to the illness in the last 24 hours. With the Punjab Government's update, the active caseload reached 10,351 and the total death toll stands at 17,436, so far. Meanwhile, the number of patients on oxygen support is 628 and patients who are critical and on ventilator support are 62. SAS Nagar (122) reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Punjab, followed by Ludhiana (94) and Jalandhar (87). Other districts with a high positivity rate were Hoshiarpur, reporting 70 Covid cases and Pathankot with 45 fresh infections. Also Read | Covid-19: DCGI nod to emergency use of single-dose Sputnik Light vaccine As many as 22 Covid deaths were reported in Punjab, with fatalities in Amritsar, Bathinda, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Pathankot, Patiala, Sangrur, SAS Nagar and SBS Nagar. Furthermore, 2,697 people were discharged in Punjab. A total of 2,25,488 vaccine doses were administered in the state. On Sunday, 11,871 people were given precautionary doses, taking the total precautionary dose numbers to 2,71,038. 1,03,929 individuals were given the first dose of the Covid vaccine while, 1,21,559 were administered with the second dose on Sunday, according to the Punjab Government bulletin. The total number of samples collected on the day is 29,653 with 29,017 Covid tests being conducted. With this, a total of 7,52,001 people have tested positive in the state, so far.
