Punjab Cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO also visited the spot. He enquired after the condition of the people affected by the fire.
The Cabinet minister said officials or employees responsible for the incident would not be spared. He said although the fire broke out due to oil leaking from an old power transformer, the incident would be investigated.
"While this hospital treats thousands of people daily, several students also study at this medical college. Under no circumstances can the safety of people and hospital be compromised," he added.
Harbhajan Singh ETO directed officials of the power department to restore power supply to the hospital at the earliest. After discussions with officials, the Cabinet minister said a 'complex substation' should be set up here soon to meet the power requirement of the hospital.
