Punjab Electricity Crisis: In a major setback to the Punjab government, Unit number 4 of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant Ropar has been shut down. The efforts being made by the Punjab government to ease the power supply have suffered a major setback. The shut down of unit number 4 of Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Plant Ropar will lead to a reduction of 210 MW. It is pertinent to mention that there have been outages in Ropar thermal plant (210MW) and Talwandi Sabo thermal plant (990 MW). Punjab had already closed the Bathinda thermal plant and hence it was largely dependent on private plants. Meanwhile, PSPCL is also dependent on rains as Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has also been facing water shortages for hydel power generation. Amid the electricity crisis, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered that all government offices would function from 8 am to 2 pm from July 2 onwards.
