Zirakpur road accident news: Speeding car runs over cops at Holi checkpoint; constable, home guard among 3 dead

PTC Web Desk: In a tragic accident at the Chandigarh-Zirakpur border on Friday morning, a speeding car plowed through a police checkpoint set up for Holi security checks, killing two police personnel and a civilian on the spot. The impact was so severe that the victims were entangled in the barbed wire barriers placed for security, leading to fatal dismemberment.
The deceased have been identified as Constable Sukhdarshan, Home Guard volunteer Rajesh, and an unidentified civilian. Following the incident, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur rushed to the scene to assess the situation. The police, after reviewing CCTV footage, tracked down and arrested the accused driver. A case has been registered at the Sector 31 police station.
According to police reports, constable Sukhdarshan and volunteer Rajesh had stopped a Baleno car for inspection at the Chandigarh-Zirakpur checkpoint when a high-speed vehicle approached from behind. The speeding car collided with the Baleno and the officers, dragging them into the barbed wire barriers set up for security.
At the time of the crash, the car's driver was reportedly standing near the officers and was also caught in the collision. The impact was so intense that the officers suffered complete dismemberment, with their limbs severed.
The accused driver abandoned his car at the accident site and fled. Upon receiving information, senior police officials launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. Using the vehicle’s registration details, the police identified and arrested the suspect, who is currently being interrogated.
Constable Sukhdarshan's wife Renu also serves in the Chandigarh Police and is posted at the Sector 19 police station.
