Vigilance Bureau arrests ASI in corruption case for taking bribe Rs 5,000

Chandigarh December 22 : The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during an anti-corruption campaign on Thursday, arrested an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), Harpreet Singh, posted at police station Kotkapura city, district Faridkot for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above mentioned accused ASI has been arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3000 from complaint Munish Pathak, from Kotkapura.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 5,000 as a bribe to get mutual agreement with a complainant who has lodged a complaint against him at the police station. He further alleged that the accused police official had already taken Rs 2,000 as a first instalment and was asking more money in this regard. The complainant has recorded the conversation as a proof and lodged an online complaint at the Chief Minister's anti-corruption helpline.

The spokesperson added that the VB has investigated the allegations levelled in the complaint and laid a trap. The accused police official was nabbed red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 as a second instalment in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the above mentioned police official at VB police station Ferozepur. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
